NABH
NABH is a constituent board of Quality Council of India (QCI), established to conduct accreditation programme for healthcare organizations. NABH is a key accreditation for hospitals and is counted as the highest benchmark standard for hospital quality in India.
Accreditation is provided in a non-discriminatory manner regardless of their ownership, legal status, size, and degree of independence. The standards for hospitals are accredited by ISQua. NABH has introduced two sets of accreditation programs based on the permitted number of beds of applicant healthcare organization. However, the validity remains 2 years in both the cases.
Small Health Care Organization (SHCO) Accreditation Program
Hospitals/nursing homes/day care centres with bed strength lesser than 50 comes under this accreditation program. Small Healthcare organization applying to this program must own supportive and utility facilities that are applicable and appropriate to the services being provided by the organization.
The SHCO standard is taken from hospital accreditation programme standards which are relevant to small healthcare organizations (SHCO). This will facilitate SHCO to easily understand and execute within their facilities. The standard also applies to single specialty hospitals. Besides patients, being the biggest beneficiaries from accreditation, it provides easy and transparent mechanism for empanelment of small healthcare organisations by Government, Corporate and the Insurance companies.
Healthcare Organization (HCO) Accreditation Program
Healthcare providers whose sanctioned beds are above 50 and currently operational come under this scheme. The organization must abide by the NABH standards and applicable legal/statutory/regulatory requirements. The standards are to be practiced by the whole organisation and not for a specific service within the organisation and this is applicable to both public and private hospitals.
